Artist in Residence with Jacob Olmedo

Meet our new resident artist, Jacob Olmedo . Featuring new works created while in residence at Ace Hotel New York,  composed of garments, tapestries, and structures that serve as a continuation of the artist’s ongoing practice depicting hopeful and promised futures of queer existence. This residency and exhibition is a part of a year-long curatorial partnership with Powerhouse Arts.

About –

Jacob Olmedo is a multidisciplinary artist who works with textiles and sculpture forms that blend certain traditional and contemporary craftwork, exploring deeply personal statements about being human. Often drawn to hybridizing materials and techniques that transform and critique the status quo, they ask for the meaning of the work to be about the dismantling of physical and societal structures to reveal the tenderness of body, skin, land, and soul. Their practice is a journey following a pulse entangled in emotional, tense depictions of self and humanness.

Powerhouse Arts operates a purpose-built fabrication facility devoted to providing artists the resources, tools, and community needed to bring their art projects to life. Seeking to inspire and empower, not just within, but beyond the confines of their building, the not-for-profit organization has selected four artists whose work centers creative expression through material exploration.
