Artist In Residence

A!R이란 무엇인가요?

Our Artist in Residence program, curated in partnership with collectives and institutions that inspire us, provides time to think and space to create. Every quarter, we invite artists across the globe to turn one of our hotel rooms into their studio for a month, then showcase the resulting body of work with the Ace community.

Since the inception of the Artist In Residence program in 2014, participants have included Minjae Kim, Shauna Davis, Antonia Kuo, Morgan Parker, Jason Polan, Cali Thornhill DeWitt, William Powhida, Christian Joy, Nick Zinner, Jamilla Okubo, and Kandis Williams.

Introducing our 2024/2025 curatorial partners.

Byline | Brooklyn

Byline, the culture magazine at the forefront of new media in New York, was conceived of as a place for contributors to be themselves. It was founded in 2023 by editors Gutes Guterman and Megan O’Sullivan, who have chosen the theme “art as play” for their curatorial throughline, presenting four artists for their insights into this paradox of pleasure and productivity.

commune | Kyoto

commune brings the underground above ground. The Tokyo-based gallery, book shop and publisher is small and deliberate in what they do, running pop-ups, exhibiting at international book fairs and putting on exhibits guided by diversity, community and DIY ethics. Their curatorial concept for the residency is all about curiosity and a conviction that good art is key to a good life.

Powerhouse Arts (PHA) | New York

Powerhouse Arts operates a purpose-built fabrication facility devoted to providing artists the resources, tools, and community needed to bring their art projects to life. Seeking to inspire and empower, not just within, but beyond the confines of their building, the not-for-profit organization has selected four artists whose work centers creative expression through material exploration.

FWB (Friends With Benefits) and Superchief | Palm Springs

This season’s artist residencies in Palm Springs are presented by co-curators Friends With Benefits, or FWB, and Superchief. FWB is a new cultural institution growing the adoption of emerging technology in pursuit of a better internet. Superchief is an international gallery exploring untapped possibilities for the NFT as an artist’s tool. Their curation shines a light on three artists who capture the surreal psychedelia of LA’s desert milieu, and one more to be selected in a closed call among FWB members.

The Substation | Sydney

The Substation is an arts venue with a genre-defiant approach to experimental programming and artist led-initiatives. For their curatorial concept, the organization has chosen four artists whose work speaks to the possibility of “shifting paradigms,” and the idea that art can make us question our most fundamental assumptions.
