SLOW SERIES : VINTAGE KIMONO UPCYCLING WORKSHOP with iro

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own drawstring pouch using vintage kimono fabric.

Choose your favorite combination from a selection of pre-sewn pouch bodies and drawstrings, then finish your piece by hand-sewing an original iro patch. Each fabric features its own unique colors and patterns, making every pouch one of a kind.

The pouch body is prepared in advance, so no sewing experience is necessary. Simply thread the drawstring, sew on your chosen patch, and take home a unique piece made by you.

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon exploring the beauty of vintage kimono textiles through a simple and creative making experience.

ヴィンテージの着物生地を使って、自分だけのオリジナル巾着をつくるワークショップです。

色や柄の異なる一点ものの巾着本体と紐の中から、お好きな組み合わせを選んでいただきます。さらに、iroオリジナルの手縫いワッペンもお好きなデザインをセレクト。

巾着本体と紐はあらかじめミシンで仕立ててあるので、裁縫が初めての方でも安心してご参加いただけます。

最後に、ご自身で紐を通し、選んだワッペンをひと針ひと針手縫いして仕上げます。完成した巾着は、世界にひとつだけの特別なアイテム。

Concept of iro

In a time when letting go has become easier than ever, I want to give things a second chance to shine—to pass them on, like a baton, to the next person.

When I hold a vintage kimono that has been quietly sleeping away, I feel a certain warmth, as if I am receiving a message from the past.

How did it come to exist as it does today?
Where has it traveled, and whose hands has it passed through?

There may be stains here and there, or traces of wear and fading. Yet within these imperfections, there remains something unmistakable: the evidence that this was once someone’s possession—something that was worn, cherished, and lived with.

I want to honor that presence.

With the theme “Blending into everyday life, weaving through time,” I curate vintage kimono from Kyoto, Japan.

Since beginning our activities in 2019, we have now entered our eighth year. In addition to curating vintage kimono, we hold pop-up shops, workshops, and kimono dressing lessons throughout Japan.

We also design and create original pieces by carefully returning kimono that can no longer be worn to their original fabric form, and giving those fabrics new life in different shapes and forms.

What has been passed down, and what will be passed on.

I hope that, one day, this small circle we are creating will grow into something much larger—something that continues to be passed down, all the way to the generations of children yet to come.

捨てるという事が簡単になった今の時代に、捨てずにもう一度光を与え、次の方へとバトンを渡したい。

眠っていた着物を手にしたとき、どこか温かく、そして何かメッセージのようなものを受け取った気持ちになる。
どのようにして今に存在し、どのように旅をしてきたのか。
所々にシミやかすれた印象はあっても、でもそこには確かに[誰かのモノ]であった形跡がある。

私はそういった存在感を大切にしたい。

「日常に馴染み、時代を紡ぐ。」をテーマに、京都を拠点にヴィンテージ着物のキュレーションを行う。

2019年の活動開始から、今年で8年目。
ヴィンテージ着物のキュレーションをメインに、日本各地でpop-up shopやworkshop、着付けレッスンを開催。
また、着ることができなくなった着物を一度生地の状態へ戻し、新たな形へと生まれ変わらせるオリジナル商品のデザイン、制作も手掛ける。

古いものと新しいもの。
受け継がれてきたものと、これから受け継がれていくもの。

私たちのこの活動がいつか大きな輪となって、子供達の世代にまで受け継がれていきますように。
